Who we are.

The African Centre for Refugees in Ontario, Canada, stands as a beacon of hope and solidarity for those who have fled persecution and discrimination on the African continent due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. As a registered not-for-profit, non-sectarian charitable organization, our core ethos revolves around providing unwavering support and compassion to vulnerable refugees who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer (LGBTIQ).

Our overarching mission is to extend a lifeline to those in need, offering vital humanitarian assistance while nurturing an inclusive and harmonious community where every individual is embraced for who they are. Within our walls, diversity is celebrated, and differences are recognized as strengths that enrich the fabric of our society.

From the moment African LGBTIQ refugees set foot on Canadian soil, we are steadfast in our commitment to walk alongside them every step of the way. Our comprehensive support system spans from initial settlement assistance to long-term integration efforts, all conducted in close collaboration with the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) agency of the Canadian Government.

At the heart of our organization lies a vibrant hub for consultation, where individuals find solace in shared experiences, receive tailored guidance, and forge meaningful connections. Through mutual encouragement and unwavering support, we empower LGBTIQ individuals to reclaim their dignity and rebuild their lives with confidence and resilience.

In essence, the African Centre for Refugees serves as a sanctuary of acceptance and affirmation, where the voices of the marginalized are amplified, and the rights of all are fiercely defended. Together, we strive to create a world where love knows no boundaries and where every individual, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, can flourish and thrive.
